George explains that he fixed the reimbursement footer link by ensuring the text is wrapped in a proper link block and then updated the other footer policy links to point to the correct CMS page paths. He notes that the policy URLs needed the policies folder in front of them, and he double-checked that the updated links resolve correctly. George also says he will add 301 redirects for the old URLs so any remaining references will route to the new locations and eliminate 404 errors.
[00:00] Hey, Chloe. I already made the changes, but I figured I'll just quickly show you what I did, because there's actually one other thing that we have to do as well. So really quick, the reason that the reimbursement one wasn't working is I think when you copied it,
[00:10] you probably clicked on this, and then hit copy, and went like that, and hit paste,
[00:20] and it basically adds the piece of paragraph, but outside of a link wrapper, which basically makes it not work. You can have text as links. That does work as well. You can just highlight it and pick the link,
[00:30] but it won't get the styling, which is like just turn blue or whatever. So that's why I have it wrapped in there, and for some other stuff later, but it doesn't matter.
[00:40] So that's fixed. The other ones that I fixed were the policies, and so these ones you'll see are not linked to a page.
[00:50] If I click on the footer link, you'll see on the right here I get this link block settings, and I get the option of linking to an external URL, to a page, to a section, et cetera.
[01:00] In this case, I selected page, and then I literally searched for reimbursement, and I just make sure that it's in the folder that we want.
[01:10] You want to make sure you don't grab one that's in like dev or something, because then users will just be faced with a password, and all the links will break, and so on and so forth. So you want to make sure that it's the one that is in the folder that is most appropriate based on where the page actually is.
[01:20] Now, for these ones, they are using an external URL.
[01:30] Even though the URL technically isn't external, it just allows you to put in a manual URL, and so the reason that they were broken is where they used to be on the old website was without a folder.
[01:40] So it was basically right on the root, augustschools.com slash privacy policy.
[01:50] Because we're using a CMS for these, that basically means we need to add policies slash, and then that will be privacy policy, and we can quickly double-check to make sure that works.
[02:00] There it is. Okay. So I went ahead and updated each one of those, so you don't have to worry about it,
[02:10] which will fix the links if people are clicking on it in the footer. Now, if there's other places that it exists, we still need to fix that. So if I jump over to the site settings, we can go to, I believe it's under publishing.
[02:20] I could be wrong.
[02:30] 301 redirects. And so basically what we need to do is we need to add four of them. So I'm going to make a new one, and I'm going to make it say slash privacy policy,
[02:40] and then that will now redirect to slash policies slash privacy policy.
[02:50] Just remove that double. And basically what that's going to do is it's going to make sure that anywhere else,
[03:00] say like in the app or something or any other reference to it, maybe in a different policy that references this one, will also end up in the same spot.
[03:10] And that will fix those redirect issues or those 404s that you're getting. And that's likely where they're coming from if Google Analytics is picking them up anyway.
[03:20] So I will go through and add the other three here, but just wanted you to see where they are.
